The NMC Launches the ‘NMC Commons’ — A Global Online Community

The New Media Consortium launched the NMC Commons, a private online community that fuels productivity and enables NMC’s global membership to collaborate and communicate seamlessly. NMC partner, Enterprise Hive, developed this new platform, using their HiveSocial™ social business software. Through the NMC Commons, members will also have access to the most relevant education technology content in real-time.

“We knew early on that adopting social business software was critical to enable our global membership community to collaborate more meaningfully — and with Enterprise Hive’s solution we can deliver what our members need,” said NMC CEO Dr. Larry Johnson. “We’re excited to provide secure online communities where our members want to gather and collaborate every day, all of which helps drive our members’ success and our organization’s mission.”

In deploying the NMC Commons to fuel online collaboration and interaction, Johnson emphasized that NMC members easily create comprehensive personal profiles, allowing NMC members to search and find experts in specific fields more quickly. He noted the NMC Commons also enables members to collaborate and enhances peer-to-peer learning and sharing of relevant content to stimulate robust forums about education and education technology.

The NMC Commons also gives members a wide range of easy-to-use social tools, such as the ability to post articles and job notices, and use email, polling, and news functionality. The goal is for NMC members to seamlessly share information, projects, and ideas, while providing an archived, searchable database that contains technical and practical advice. Using the Dynamic Profile feature of HiveSocial™, NMC members can find other members who share the same interests or can provide help to them based on the vast areas of expertise represented within the NMC Community.

“We’re proud to partner with NMC to launch the NMC Commons in service to their membership and mission,” said Vicki Tambellini, president and CEO of Enterprise Hive. “As member-driven organizations work to accelerate their productivity and efficiencies, Enterprise Hive continues to prove its capabilities in providing flexible, out-of-the-box solutions through cloud-based online communities.”

The NMC Commons is exclusively for NMC members. To become a member, visit www.nmc.org/members. Visit the NMC Commons at commons.nmc.org.
