We all know the story. On the first day of class, we spend time talking about the syllabus, the textbook and the other accoutrements that will carry us through the next 16 weeks. The syllabus is the table of contents. It lays out the path of hoped-for information exchange, which culminates in a test about 1/3 of the way through. Then there is the inevitable hand wringing when students underperform on the test. Yet, we reset and march on toward the next exam and onward to the final exam. More >
